Kyl Samway

OWNER & TRAINER

Kyl has been CrossFitting for an unprecedented nine years and has a slew of prestigious certifications under his belt.

His journey with CrossFit started back when he was a personal trainer. A friend from the Army introduced him to CrossFit. “CrossFit opened my eyes to a fitness I didn’t know existed,” he says. “I have been coaching the CrossFit methodology since 2008, initially in one-on-one training sessions, eventually evolving into opening the affiliate in 2010 and never looking back. Being a CrossFit Coach has been my full-time profession for 9 years.”

When Kyl isn’t in the gym, you can find him doing just about anything outdoors – hunting, skiing, snowboarding, surfing, archery, fly fishing, and much, much more!

Bob Shay

TRAINER

Bob has been CrossFitting for seven years, and his specialty is scaling workouts to maximize intensity. His favorite thing about coaching is seeing members improve right before his eyes, especially if they’re finally achieving a long-term goal. Robert played baseball in college and, more recently, earned a spot in the top 200 in the 55-59 Masters Division at the 2015 CrossFit Open. His favorite quote is “A sense of humor is one of the most important tools to deal with circumstances beyond our control.”

Janelle Conners

TRAINER

Janelle specializes in positive thinking. When she started CrossFitting back in 2010, she knew she wanted to coach, but never could find the time or the confidence to actually get in front of a group of people and lead them into fitness glory. “I got my Level 1 certification about a year after starting CrossFit,” she says. “With more time and training under my belt, I started coaching some of the 6 a.m. classes at the gym. I love it, and I am thankful for the opportunity to be a coach at Boulder Mountain CrossFit.”

Janelle has been involved in a ton of sports other than CrossFit, including track, national-level Saddleseat Equitation horseback riding, rowing, mountain bike racing, and recreational Nordic skiing. Her favorite quotes are “You must do the thing you think you cannot do” from Eleanor Roosevelt, and “Chiggity check yo self before you wreck yo self” from Ice Cube.

Jordan Baker

TRAINER

Jordan got into CrossFit to get better at competitive tree climbing. Yes, that’s a real thing. “I found a passion for climbing and mountaineering, which lead me to a career as an arborist and on to discover the world of competitive tree climbing,” he says. “I landed on the podium in many tree climbing championships across the pacific northwest for the belayed speed climb, foot lock, and aerial rescue.”

CrossFit helped Jordan develop a more competitive attitude and conditioned him for the pressure of competing. “It wasn’t long before I had forgotten all about tree climbing and was on the path to becoming a CrossFit coach,” he says.

Casey Scherer

TRAINER

Casey practiced law in Seattle, WA, for a decade before he realized the lifestyle he was living was very unhealthy. “I was contemplating what I wanted to do ‘when I grew up,’ and the only thing that kept coming to mind was coaching and teaching, as it was the only calling I recall ever really enjoying,” he says. As he was already addicted to CrossFit, becoming a coach seemed like fate.

Casey has always been an athlete, and even spent several years playing and coaching semi-professional football in Perth, Western Australia, after college. His favorite quote is “What you are stands over you the while, and thunders so that I cannot hear what you say to the contrary.” ― Ralph Waldo Emerson

Kim Taylor

TRAINER

Kim has been a competitive athlete since she was 5 years old, and today she loves teaching CrossFit to kids. She’s been CrossFitting for six years and specializes in endurance and a positive attitude – two things that go very hand in hand.

Kim has competed in alpine and Nordic skiing, road and mountain bike races, triathlons, and backcountry runs. She came in 16th at the CrossFit Games Masters for the 50+ Division in 2016, earned second place at the Boulder Mountain Tour, and placed 5th in the Leadville 100 bike race. Her favorite quote is “Don’t ask, don’t get.”
